What are crowns in an hour?

In the past, getting a crown involved at least two visits in the office. Dr. Kiger would prepare the tooth, take impressions, and send them to the laboratory for fabrication. Several weeks later, patients returned for a second appointment to secure the permanent crown. With our CEREC unit, we can mill a strong, beautiful restoration in about an hour. Dr. Kiger permanently places the crown during the same visit, and you leave the appointment with a restored, healthy smile.

Does your office use lasers?

We have chosen laser technology because it allows us to make patient treatment more precise and more comfortable. Laser light works efficiently and produces very little heat as it acts on targeted tissue, avoiding the body's typical histamine release response. The result is little or no discomfort to the patient, which makes it ideal for oral procedures in both hard and soft tissues. As well, we can use the laser to both detect and eliminate tooth decay quickly and with more precision than traditional x-rays, probes, and drills supply. We also utilize Waterlase, a revolutionary technology that uses water to cut, so no heat is involved. For more about lasers and Waterlase, check out the library.

I really don't like visiting the dentist. Is there anything you can do to help me relax?

We realize that some patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care. That's why we have worked hard to make patients as comfortable and relaxed as possible. If necessary, we can offer qualified patients a small pill before receiving dental treatment for sedation. We don't think you have to suffer through any dental treatment, and we hope those days are long gone. Dr. Kiger also uses dental lasers as much as possible during treatment because they reduce discomfort and bleeding. If you haven't been to the dentist in a while, it's time to come back because our sedation and treatment techniques have advanced tremendously.

I have a temporary crown in my mouth. What happens if it comes off or breaks?

Don't panic; we can fix it. Call us right away so that we can determine if you need to come in for emergency dental treatment, or if you can wait until the next business day. Most patients, after talking to us, are instructed to re-adhere the piece onto the tooth with a little bit of toothpaste. Yes, this is something you can try at home! Or, you can try using an over-the-counter dental cement found in most drugstores to put the temporary back in place.

I want my front teeth to look better, but I don't want to wear braces. What would you recommend?

If you haven't been to the dentist in a while, you're probably in for a few pleasant surprises. Braces aren't the only cure for crooked teeth anymore, especially for adults. For many adult patients, porcelain veneers can do wonders. Placement of porcelain veneers might take only two or three visits with instantaneous results, whereas braces may take about two years to obtain comparable results. Call us for an appointment to get more information.
